A
Maison de Maitre and former Cognac Distillery in the heart of the Charente
countryside
Offering bed and breakfast/ special interest holidays and table d'hotes
Open all year round
From April 2009 we offer a well equipped self-contained gite sleeping up to 4.
A warm welcome awaits you at La Vieille Distillerie, a restored Maison de Maitre dating from the mid-nineteenth century with its own former Cognac distillery.
An even warmer welcome is extended in winter in this centrally heated house with log fires and candlelit dinner.
We offer B&B or special interest breaks which can be tailored to suit your requirements.
These include cookery, visits to a local Cognac distillery and wine-tasting, painting with artist's tuition, courses in mosaic work, golf, fishing, horse-riding and bird-watching. Visits to Chateaux and gardens can also be arranged.
Situated in the tranquil hamlet of Le Tatre, 4 kms off the N10 route to the South and Spain, it is a convenient stop-off or an ideal place from which to explore the beautiful French countryside.
We are close to vineyards, sunflower fields and rolling countryside. The quiet roads are ideal for cyclists, walkers and birdwatchers, where the Hoopoe, Black Redstart, Serin, Black Kite and Zetting Cisticole can all be seen in the area of Le Tatre.
We are an excellent base for house hunters being near the borders of three Departments, the Charente Maritime, the Gironde and the Dordogne. A fishing lake and a tennis court are within a few yards of our house. An eleventh century church overlooks our garden.
