Our French adventure began in the Spring of 2006 . Our plan was to buy a lovely house and open our home to B & B guests. We had enjoyed 12 happy years meeting and entertaining people from all over the world in our previous home in England.
We are both retired. Robert had spent many years working as a financial advisor but before working with a financial institution he had worked for a leading firm of West End wine merchants. He now enjoys taking our visitors who are interested in wine to some of the famous chateaux at St Emilion, or the Medoc and in the evenings talking over dinner while sharing some of the wonderful Bordeaux wines with guests. Veronica, a retired journalist whose hobby is now producing cordon bleu meals for guests and friends, spent a number of years working for the European Movement at the time when Britain was negotiating its entry into the European Community.
By August we had found an elegant Maison de Maitre with its Cognac distillery.
Just before Christmas 2006 we .moved in with our elderly labrador and very ancient cat we had brought from England. We spent several months restoring, renovating and installing ensuite bathrooms. The house had been owned by a French distilling family since 1850. They ceased distilling Cognac about 1960 but left the amazing alambic (copper Still) in the distillery.
We want to share our delight at being in this lovely region of rural France. Our aim is to ensure that our visitors relax in comfort and enjoy a gastronomic meal with a glass or two of wine. During your stay we will help you to see and experience as much as possible of this beautiful region which enjoys more sunshine hours than any other area of France apart from the Cote d'Azur.
For those seeking to buy either holiday or permanent homes, we can offer advice on aspects of renovations, introduce you to French and English artisans and local estate agents. Our local French speaking representative is on hand to assist with translation including documents. We can introduce you to our local Mairie (Mayor) who will tell you all about aspects of French life.
We now have just one french dog, Millie, a black labrador cross English Setter who we acquired as a puppy 2 years ago who makes sure Robert takes regular exercise.
